If you have no time, why are you on Facebook?

I work way too hard to write a blog – let alone a book — about being a working mom (“WoMo”). The fact that I would even attempt to eek out anything other than text messages in the wee hours of my teeny amounts of “free” time is laughable. With 80-hour weeks (paid at ¾ rate … don’t ask) and a 90-minute commute twice a day, the nightly family dinner, bath and a reading routine with my toddler is the only time during a day when I am not glued to the Blackberry or checking my watch. We’re talking about somebody who hasn’t been to the dentist for a year, who buys dry shampoo in bulk (to stretch out the time between blow-outs) and who wears hideous glasses everyday rather than devote the extra ten minutes it takes to put contacts in.
But then late one evening, while toggling back and forth between Perezhilton.com and Facebook, while watching “American Idol” and “House Hunters International” at the same time, it dawned on me. There were a few spare moments here and there to get some of my crazy tales down for posterity. If I could fit celebrity gossip, mundane status postings, fantasy home shopping and Adam Lambert into a single evening – all post T-man routine – I could certainly carve out the time to record the hilarities and tragedies of daily life. Let’s hope there’s more to laugh about than cry.
